FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
A: Usually takes anywhere from 12-36 months depending on many factors- including the age of the patient, growth pattern, surgical necessity etc.
4-6 weeks is the average time between adjustment appointments.
Yes. Orthodontic care does correct the appearance of crooked teeth. The bite is also corrected during comprehensive treatment.
Braces can definitely fix underbites, depending on the severity. For mild cases, braces are very effective. In more severe cases, additional treatments may be necessary to fully correct the underbite.
Generally, we aim to resolve TMJ problems before starting orthodontic treatment. Braces might help with TMJ issues, but there's no guarantee. Symptoms may persist even after treatment. In many cases, I refer patients to a TMJ specialist to evaluate and address any discomfort or pain before beginning orthodontic care.
Yes, we have special materials that allow us to cement braces onto crowns and veneers, so it's definitely possible.
Yes, patients with dental implants can still get braces to improve the alignment of their teeth. However, implants themselves cannot be moved. We can only adjust the neighboring teeth and improve the bite.
We cannot begin orthodontic treatment if a patient has active periodontal disease. The condition must be resolved by a periodontist or general dentist first. Once the disease is no longer active, treatment can proceed.
Yes, pregnancy is not considered a contraindication for orthodontic treatment.
Yes, if there's an issue with a tooth, patients can still undergo root canal treatment during orthodontic care. The procedure can be safely done even with braces.
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an initial consultation by age seven. While treatment usually doesn't start that early, it's a good time for evaluation. Most treatments begin around ages 11 to 13 when adult teeth have erupted, allowing us to address alignment, bite, and aesthetics.
Sticky/chewy/hard foods cause breakage of appliances and should be avoided during treatment.
Braces are priced by case, whether it is comprehensive or limited and the type of brackets you choose (metal, ceramic, or lingual). Dr. Pinhasov gives you your exact number at your free consultation, with no surprises.
Many insurances have orthodontic benefits. Each plan is different and depends on the benefits that are available.
